What happens when I run relief?
TabRelief asks Chrome to discard eligible idle tabs. The tab remains visible in your tab strip. When you select it again, Chrome reloads the page.
Which tabs are protected?
TabRelief excludes active tabs, pinned tabs, audible tabs, tabs that are currently loading, tabs already discarded, and tabs Chrome reports as non-discardable.
Why does it say nothing to unload?
Your tabs may be too recent for the selected mode, protected, already sleeping, or otherwise not eligible for Chrome's discard operation. Try again later or choose Deep mode if appropriate.
Does TabRelief close tabs or clear data?
No. TabRelief does not close tabs, clear browsing history, delete cookies, delete downloads, or wipe browser data.
Does it work across multiple Chrome profiles?
Chrome profiles are isolated from each other. TabRelief can act only inside the profile where it is installed. If you want relief in multiple profiles, install it separately in each profile.
Can TabRelief guarantee lower CPU usage?
No extension can honestly guarantee a fixed CPU reduction. TabRelief reduces unnecessary work by unloading eligible idle tabs. CPU usage caused by active pages, other extensions, Chrome GPU/process issues, or other browser profiles may remain.
Frequently asked questions
Does TabRelief read the websites I visit?
No. It does not request access to tab URLs, titles or page content.
Does it send telemetry or analytics?
No. TabRelief has no analytics SDK, tracking SDK, account system or remote API.
Why does it show memory?
The extension uses Chrome's system.memory permission only to display currently available system memory and a local before/after reading around a relief action.
Where is my theme preference stored?
The light/dark preference is stored locally in the extension popup using browser localStorage and is not transmitted.
